Kern County Law Library
Beginning the week of April 4, 2022, access to the library will be available by appointment and on a walk-in basis.
The Law Library will give priority access to customers with appointments.
The rules of access are posted below.
Face coverings are optional, however, individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, or have been recently exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the last 10 days, may not enter a courthouse
Individuals exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms, which include, but are not limited to fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, will not be granted access to the law library.
With the exception of a fifteen cent per page printing/photocopying fee, the staff of the law library will not charge you money for the services we provide. The law library staff are prohibited by law from accepting payment in exchange for document preparation, and the law library staff cannot accept gifts. Please read below for a full description of the library’s rules of operations.

Walk-in access begins April 4, 2022.
Monday-Thursday:
8am – 12pm, and 1pm – 4pm
Friday:
8am – 12 pm, and 1pm – 3:30 pm
Customers with appointments will receive priority access over walk-in cusomers.
NOLO Books
We now have Nolo books available online. If you are looking for Self-Help materials on a variety of topics including family law, probate, small claims, estate planning, and more, check out our free collection.
How to Expunge your Record
Information regarding the process of improving your criminal record by asking the court to dismiss eligible convictions.
Small Claims
Information for people looking to make a claim in small claims courts. Please note, attorneys are not allowed in small claims court and the maximum you can sue for is $10,000.00.
Civil Harassment
Procedural guidance and forms for people seeking to file a civil harassment restraining order.
Unlawful Detainer
Unlawful Detainers are lawsuits where landlords ask for an order to evict a tenant. We have separate pages for landlords and tenants.
State Prison Library Requests
A list of several organizations who offer help to inmates and prisoners to secure library requests including the PLO, which also offer resource guides on topics such as conditions, parole suitability, immigration, and criminal law information.
