The Kern County Law Library is an independent district organized under California Business and Professions Code § 6300 et seq. The Business and Professions Code § 6320 establishes the primary funding source for all California county law libraries as a portion of civil filing fees paid by litigants in Superior Court. A small portion of the library's budget is funded by revenue from overdue book fines, photocopies, CD-ROM copies & MCLE tape rentals.
